Raising the Standard
Working with you to do more to prevent opioid misuse
Current statistics on the number of opioid deaths and substance abuse disorders indicate we need to do more in the prevention of opioid misuse. According to the Center of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) around 68% of the more than 70,200 drug overdose deaths in 2017 involved an opioid. In 2017, the number of overdose deaths involving opioids (including prescription opioids and illegal opioids like heroin and illicitly manufactured fentanyl) was 6 times higher than in 1999. It’s time we improve education and prevention efforts for patients who need pain medication for either acute or chronic conditions.
TOGETHER WE CAN BE PART OF THE SOLUTION
Full psychological assessment
For every new patient, we complete a full psychological assessment to identify the presence of any mental health or substance abuse disorders. By understanding the intricacies of each individual patient, we can better assess and tailor our prevention program to their needs.
We spend the time necessary to fully inform patients on safe medication use and the warning signs of misuse
It’s time we do more than an initial half-hour education session with patients starting pain medication. Over several sessions, we not only educate patients on the warning signs of misuse, the importance of a support network, and the relationship between psychological and physiological pain, but through monthly sessions understand identify the development of potential triggers. Sometimes individuals who are perfectly functioning lose their job, experience a loss, or otherwise undergo a life changing event that may lead to a misuse of medication. Through our program, we aim to be there to help before that occurs.
A comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach based on evidence-based treatment modalities.
We focus on variables that influence both physical and emotional health. Through integrative care interventions, patients will receive services that promote comprehensive wellness.
Improving the integrity of the family system through effective communication and boundaries supports emotional wellness, a healthy environment and a stable support system
Our program aims to help people define their sense of identity and purpose, instilling the motivation for self-improvement and use prevention.
Social networks that foster feelings of friendship and love should surround the person. We educate and help patients develop a healthy network of supports that are conducive to preventing substance use.
Our comprehensive education program focuses on all four of these components.
